Zumi Modern Sushi was born from a shared passion for exceptional cuisine, cultural appreciation, and memorable dining. Founded by Jackie Kaewlamduan - Thai owner of the renowned Ka Thai restaurants and former partner at Yutaka Sushi Bistro, named one of Travel + Leisure’s Best Sushi Restaurants in America - and Chef Pae, a former Nobu sushi chef, Zumi blends tradition, innovation, and heart into every plate.
Though both founders are Thai, their love for Japanese cuisine runs deep. Their vision was to introduce a fresh, modern sushi concept to the Southlake community - one rooted in authenticity, elevated by creativity, and defined by uncompromising ingredients and technique.
Chef Pae’s journey is one of reinvention: once a civil engineer with a master’s degree, he found his true calling in the precise, disciplined art of sushi. Years in world-class kitchens, including Nobu, shaped his refined approach to craftsmanship.
Supporting Zumi’s culinary program is an experienced Japanese chef, highly skilled in traditional methods, along with a previous garde manger whose background includes a Michelin-starred restaurant in New York City. Our extended team of Japanese chefs and a master mixologist further elevate the experience, curating a modern drink menu designed to complement every dish.
For Jackie, bringing Zumi to Southlake is personal. She has long admired the community, the families, the energy, and the pride that define this city.
